Kaiser Permanente Los Angeles Medical Center (KP-LAMC) is a full-service center that provides primary through quaternary care. The Kaiser Permanente Southern California (KPSC) Regional Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory and Regional Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology services are both located at KP-LAMC, serving more than 4 million members in Southern California.

Our 32-bed Coronary Care Unit (CCU) is the largest in the city of Los Angeles and admits ~2,500 patients every year. The CCU is divided into 4 modules staffed by two physician teams equipped to provide intensive critical care, invasive monitoring, and step-down care. The CCU supports the training requirements of the Departments of Internal Medicine in addition to Cardiology.

The Regional Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory is located at LAMC and consists of five fluoroscopy suites. The Cath Lab performs >6,000 diagnostic, and >2,000 coronary interventional procedures every year.  In addition, there is a very active and expanding structural heart disease program performing ASD/PFO closures, TAVR, Mitraclip, Mitral Valvuloplasty and alcohol septal ablation for HOCM.  Peripheral vascular procedures as also performed.  Each Fellow rotates for 6-8 months in the Cath Lab over the course of 3 years. The faculty attendings in the catheterization laboratory are dedicated to teaching fellows in acquiring new skills required for performing cutting edge procedures and embracing new technology.

The Regional Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology (CCEP) Service, also located at LAMC, performs >500 diagnostic studies and >250 ablations per year, including state-of the-art ablation procedures to treat ventricular arrhythmias, atrial fibrillation, atypical flutter, etc. The CCEP service implants > 500 new devices annually.  Each Fellow spends 2-4 months on this rotation. Fellows are exposed to different aspects of Electrophysiology (EP), including biventricular device implants, and cutting-edge Electrophysiology procedures such as, intracardiac echocardiography, transseptal catheterization, three-dimensional mapping using the Navix and Carto-merge mapping systems, epicardial ablations and Sterotaxis for remote mapping/ablation, Cryoballoon ablation, and left atrial appendage occlusion devices

The Cardiac Surgical Department performs ~2,000 surgeries every year, including a full spectrum of patients with ischemic, valvular, and congenital heart diseases. It is one of the three largest cardiac surgical programs in the State of California.
