Life After Residency
The path to matching into fellowship starts early in residency. Incoming interns who have an interest in pursuing a fellowship or research are paired to a specialty mentor. These advisors, along with scheduled info sessions, provide guidance and support to all residents interested in fellowship. In the past 8 years, the Kaiser Permanente Los Angeles Internal Medicine program has consistently matched residents to their top fellowship programs.
Dr. Sarah Chiu matched to Cardiology Fellowship at University of Florida – Jacksonville.
Dr. Trina Dao matched to Palliative Care & Hospice Fellowship at Kaiser Permanente – Los Angeles.
Dr. Christopher Lau matched to Pulmonary/Critical Care Fellowship at Phoenix Banner Medical Center – Univ of Arizona.
Dr. Deborah Lu matched to Nephrology Fellowship at Kaiser Permanente – Los Angeles.
Dr. Tri Tran matched to Infectious Disease Fellowship at LAC USC – Los Angeles.
Graduating Residents
Graduating residents not pursuing a fellowship secure a practice opportunity during their PGY-3 year. Many residents stay with Kaiser Permanente while others branch out to Cedars-Sinai, UCLA, community hospitals and private practice.
