Global Health Program - Global Health Track

The Southern California Kaiser Permanente Global Health Track offers opportunities to develop expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of common tropical conditions and diseases, to expand clinical knowledge and management skills in preparation for work in areas of limited resources, and to improve cultural competency to better serve our diverse community of Southern California.

 

Kaiser Permanente residency programs are designed to train physicians to practice in any part of the country and to provide the basis for work abroad, even in the most challenging medical sites. Our Global Health Track would allow those who wish to expand their fund of knowledge to better serve those in all communities, especially the underserved areas, and at the same time improve awareness of the diversity of Kaiser Permanente members.

Residents who are accepted and complete requirements would graduate with a letter of distinction for completing the Global Health Track. The requirements for our Global Health Track include the following:

Year One

  • Apply for the Global Health Track by contacting Dr. Dennis Andrade
  • Attend at least 50 % Global Health meetings
  • Start Global Health Journal Club reading listed under Educational Resources

 Year Two

  • Continue Global Health Track reading list
  • Present one topic at the Global Health Journal Club meetings
  • Participate in quarterly Global Health Track meetings
  • Attend a Global Health Workshop or Conference
  • Attend at least 50% of the quarterly Global Health Track and Journal Club meetings

Year Three

  • Complete Global Health Journal Club reading list
  • Lead one of the Global Health Journal Club meetings
  • Attend at least 50% of the quarterly Global Health Track and Journal Club meetings
  • Attend Global Health Workshop or Conference (if not completed in 2nd year)
  • Minimum of 2 weeks international clinical elective experience
  • Present on your international elective to your residency program
  • Poster, lecture, or presentation on Global Health topic/research at a medical conference
  • Mentor junior residents of the Global Health Track
